Hiya! Franki09 here, and this is a Naruto and Avatar: Last Airbender crossover. Only read if you're familiar with both Naruto and Avatar:Last Airbender. It's a one-shot, and it's called Gamblers. Here's the summary: When the Blind Bandit get's slightly tipsy and ends up in a bar in Konohagakure, and the Fifth Hokage of Konoha arrives and places a bet, who knows what will happen? Tensions begin to arise as the greatest gamblers in the history of gambling battle it out, the question on everybody's mind is; who will win?! Read here to find out!

So, here it is. Gamblers:

The Blind Bandit leaned against the worktop, feet dangling lazily beneath the bar seat, a bowl of cactus-juice in one hand. Toph was exhausted from a long day of training Aang, and a brief encounter with a small troop of Fire-Nation soldiers, so as a break at the end she persuaded all of them to take a break and do whatever they please, as long as they meet again at dawn. She had a feeling that Sokka and Suki snuck off together, maybe Katara and Aang as well, and goodness knows where Zuko scurried off to, but she was slightly tipsy and had wandered off to some crowded, unknown city that could be a million miles from Ba Sing Se for all she knew. And to be honest Toph really couldn't care less. She was on her fifth round of cactus juice and had gambled at least 100 earth-kingdom coins from everyone in the bar for the gaangs well-being, and all round had had a pretty successful night.
Tired, Toph was just about to heave herself up and see if there were any more of her gambling-scheming victims in another inn, when the doors swung open and a young-looking blonde woman came bursting threw the doors with a defeated looking middle-aged silver-haired man following closely behind. "Jiraiya, I won the bet fair and square, Sasuke came back, you said he wouldn't, and now you owe me a drink!" she declared, catching the attention of everyone in the bar, including Toph, as they all laughed and jeered at the silver-haired man. "Lady Tsunade!" they all cheered as she floated across to the bar taking a seat next to Toph and called to the barman; "Yo Daisuke! Two of the usual on the go!"
Toph stared at the woman, somehow in awe. The apparent 'Tsunade' wasn't wearing any traditional nation clothing, come to think of it nobody in the room was, and it made Toph wonder what a strange city she happened to come across. Lazily, Toph blinked a few times in boredom, and slumped round to lean against the counter, shoulders hunched, cactus-juice bowl cupped in both hands. She was just minding her own business when the woman, Tsunade, turned round and spoke in a loud clear voice; "Well look what we have here, Konoha's newest arrival, I haven't seen you around town, and I'm the Hokage, I practically know everyone!"
Toph was aware that everyone's eyes were on her and by the way Tsunade was looking at her expectantly, she guessed the statement was aimed at her. "You talking to me?" she inquired, enjoying the spotlight. There were a few gasps and 'oooohs' from the crowd, and Tsunade's eyes flashed with a look of annoyance briefly, and Toph guessed, that the 'hokage' or whatever it was was important by the way Tsunade stood up slowly, and loomed over Toph, trying to look intimidating, made everybody look up from what they were doing and stare. But Toph wasn't scared. She was Toph. She was the Blind Bandit, the toughest earth-bender alive. She wasn't going to back down yet.
"Excuse me?!" demanded Tsunade.
"Yeah?"
"I hope you realize that you are speaking to Lady Tsunade, the fifth Hokage of Konoha."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Everybody gawped. "I really hope you're not playing dumb with me, girl, because if you are it wo-…" Tsunade was cut short as Toph interrupted;
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever you'll do to me it won't matter, 'cause I'm Toph Bei Fong, heiress of the Bei Fong inheritance and the Blind Bandit, greatest earth-bender alive, in league with the Avatar. Try me."
Tsunade went as white as a sheet, before the colour fell back to her face before deepening as she went scarlet with rage. Obviously she wasn't used to being disobeyed, Toph guessed. She was having fun. Tsunade opened her mouth to speak, and Toph expected her to scream at her, but instead she smiled naughtily before simply saying; "I like this girl."
Toph was surprised, and so was everyone else as they all whooped and cheered, before getting on with their own business. Tsunade sat back down. "Toph, huh? Strange name, if you don't mind me saying."
"Tsunade. Hmm. You can talk. And who's he?" she gestured toward the silver haired man.
"This weakling here is Jiraiya."
Jiraiya's eyes lit up. "I'm a writer. Make out paradise. Ever heard of it?"
"Uncle Iroh talked about it sometimes, but he never said it was any good." Jiraiya scowled. Tsunade smirked.
"You have such funny names!" she laughed, "Your eyes, are you a member of the Hyuga clan, by any chance?"
"Whatsa clan? Nope, I'm from the Earth kingdom, Bei Fong family. And I have no idea about this clan thing of yours."
"Hmm. Strange."
"And as a matter of fact, I'm blind, which is my eyes look like that."
"Oh, wow, I'm so sorry, I didn't-" once again Tsunade was interrupted by Jiraiya. He stood up, yawning, and stretched. "Ah, well, I have to go. I've been invited round to a lovely kunoichi's house and-"
"-Jiraiya, we don't want to know,"
"Look, I'm sorry, but all these funny words, you may as well be speaking in Latin and it wouldn't make any difference." Said Toph.
"Hmm, you're not from around here, are you?" asked the fifth Hokage.
"Wherever 'here' is, no."
Jiraiya was just about to make his escape, when Tsunade called; "Not yet, you still owe me a drink, now cough up!" she demanded, holding her hand out and beckoning.
"Whatever," he muttered, as he placed a small bag in the palm of her hand, and stalked off. Tsunade grinned smugly. "I don't know why that man bothers to make bets with me, he never wins," She smirked. Toph raised an eyebrow. She could tell easily Tsunade was lying. "Of course, I don't really have a problem with that. Anyway, your parents, where are they?" Tsunade asked, looking round the room. "They're not here." Toph stated.
"If you're blind, then how-"
"I just can, alright?!"
"How did you know that Jiraiya was there?"
"I saw him. Duh!"
"You just said you were blind."
"Doesn't mean I can't see."
"I don't get you."
"I'm an earth-bender, I use my earth-bending to see. I see through my feet."
"Just like the byakugan!"
"The what?"
"Doesn't matter. Soooo, what am I doing now?"
"Waving."
"How many fingers am I holding up?"
"Four."
"Wow. And it's definitely not the byakugan, your eyes don't activate, what technique is this called?"
"It's not a technique. It's earth bending. I do this all the time. I was taught by badger-moles. It's just normal for me."
"What is earth-bending?"
"You don't know what earth-bending is?" Tsunade shook her head. Toph sighed. "In the four nations, you get water, fire, air and earth. Depending on which nation you're in, sometimes you're born with the ability to control the elements. This ability is called bending. Only the Avatar can control all four elements. I'm an earth-bender, here, see?" Toph stood up, and raised her right hand, then clenched her left in a fist, at the same time as lifting her right foot, moving her left to the side, and lowering her body. When she moved the palm of her right hand forwards, a huge spike of rock came shooting out of the ground, causing the chairs to wobble slightly and everyone in the room to stare. A few pieces of dirt and earth crumbled and rolled down the sides of the spike. Toph moved her right hand back, unclenched her fist, and made her right palm face the floor again. The spike descended into the ground once again. Everybody gaped for a few seconds, before turning back to their tables. Tsunade stared at Toph for a few seconds. "Wow. I truly am amazed! No signs, I could tell you weren't using chakra, just… how do you do it? I mean the technique is amazing, even I've never heard of it, could you teach me?"
"It's not something you can teach to any random person. They have to be born with the ability to do it. I use my earth-bending through my feet to feel the vibrations around me, therefore letting me see."
"You truly are an intriguing person, Toph."
"I would say the same for you, but you're not, so I won't."
"You have a sharp tongue for your age. How old are you?"
"Twelve, why?"
"Nothing."
"I have more than just a sharp tongue. I bet you I could beat you in any game, I've earned at least 100 coins in here alone. I'm one of the best gamblers in Ba Sing Se. Wait, let me re-phrase that. I am the best gambler in Ba Sing Se."
Tsunade raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? Well I'm Tsunade, the fifth Hokage, best gambler in Konoha," she boasted.
"Wanna bet?"
"Of course, when have I ever turned one down?"
"How much?"
"What are you betting?"
"That I will beat you, in, umm, Pai Sho."
"Pie what?"
"Pai sho. Tell me you've heard of Pai Sho!"
Once again, Tsunade shook her head. Toph quickly explained the rules. "D'you get it?"
"Sort of. But if you've played this game a lot, and you know it well, that would give you an advantage. How 'bout we play your 'Pai Sho' then we play my game? Sound good?"
"That depends. What game are you planning on picking?" she asked, suspicious Tsunade had an evil trick up her sleeve. "Oichi-Kabu. Have you ever heard of it?"
"It rings a bell. How d'you play?"
Tsunade smirked. "Here's how…" like Toph, she quickly explained the rules. "So, you think you're up to it?"
"Never said I wasn't." Toph smirked back.
"Then let's go!"
"Pai Sho first!" Toph bagsied.
"Fine. Have it on you?"
"Nope, but I bet there's one somewhere in here…"
"Excuse me, Daisuke? Do you have any 'Pai Sho' games anywhere?"
"I think so, over near that table over there, there's a cupboard behind it. You should find one there."
"Thanks Daisuke," said Tsunade as she elegantly spun round and swiftly made her way across the room. When she returned she had Pai Sho in her hands. "Good." Toph grinned. Happily, she lead Tsunade across the room and found a table to themselves, where she expertly laid out the board and the pieces neatly. "You ready?" she teased.
"I've never not been." Tsunade replied, taking a seat and making herself comfortable.
"How much are you betting?" inquired Toph.
"50"
"95"
"Oooh, I think I'll change mine…"
"Nuh-uh, too late. You said 50, 50 it is."
"Fine" she scowled. By now a large audience had gathered round the table, watching, waiting intently. And off they went. Toph went first. Carefully, her hand hovered over a piece, before she decided to pick it up and moved it across the board. "Hmm..." Tsunade cursed under her breath and chose another tile, and placing it near Tophs. "Aha! I'm winning!" she cried.
"Nuh-uh, you can't make that move. I'm still in the lead."
"How?"
"You can only move these tiles onto these squares, and you could have used that piece, but you decided to use the other piece. I'm still winning." She explained, snickering quietly, as she moved the piece back over to another square. "You, are here." She gestured towards Tsunade's tile.
"Dammit."
Toph picked up another tile and put it right next to Tsunade's. "See? And if I get another three of my tiles around the remaining corners of your tiles, I'll be able to take your tile. First person to get all the others person's tiles is the winner. But if you can't do that, the person with more of the other players tiles when the game ends than their opponent has of theirs, they can win that way."
"I already knew that, duh."
"Yet you weren't playing it properly."
"That's a completely different rule!"
"Whatever." The game proceeded pretty much the same after that. After a bit Tsunade used a trick and got her first out of Tophs tiles. "Aha! Now I'm winning! 'Have any excuses now, Toph Bei Fong?!!" she laughed in victory.
"No fair. You cheated!"
"Isn't that what gambling's all about?"
"Doesn't matter, anyway, you see, now you've done that, I can put this tile here, allowing me to take two of your pieces, and putting me in the lead!" she placed her tile in between two of Tsunades, before leaning over and gleefully snatching up her pieces. "Who's laughing now?" she smirked under her fringe. Roars of laughter and applause erupted from the crowd, as they began to chant Tophs name. "To-oph, To-oph, To-oph!"
Even though Toph was basking in her glory, she didn't show it. And about three seconds later Tsunade had made her move and picked up another one of Tophs tiles.
"Yes, Toph. Who is laughing now?" she smirked.
"Me." Toph pointed to her piece, right in the middle of three of Tsunades, which were all surrounded by Tophs. She delightfully picked all three of Tsunades tiles up and leaned back in her chair, as the cheers and cries of triumph rose up from the crowd. Toph couldn't help grinning evilly at the sight of Tsunades face, awe-struck and gob-smacked mixed with embarrassment and shock. "I tried to warn you, playing against me is no picnic!" she smirked, as Tsunade scowled. Then, when the noise of the crowd died down, Tsunade placed a new tile on the board, and when it was Tophs turn she moved her piece next to Tsunades and added it too her collection. Then Tophs luck died down as Tsunade grabbed one of Tophs tiles and was catching up.
"Oh, the joy!" she cried in triumph, as once again the audience burst into applause. Even though she was still one ahead, Tsunade had wiped the smile off Tophs face. Damn. She didn't have any new tiles, so she had to move the ones on the board, and Tsunades pieces were miles away. The tension was rising in the audience, as Toph slowly picked up her piece and moved it towards Tsunades. It was nearly impossible to keep her cool, as Tsunade smirked, and moved her tile forwards. After a few repetitive goes, Toph finally got Tsunades second to last piece. Tsunade did nothing but quietly growl under her breath, all the while glaring at Toph. 'Guessing she's not used to being beaten much" Toph thought sarcastically in her head.
As Tsunade made her last move, the move that would secure who wins, the loud roars of cheers and laughter from the crowd seemed like a million miles away, a distant muffled noise that was unheard to the deaf ears of the Blind Bandit and the Fifth Hokage, as they sat there, hearts about to burst from their chests. Tsunades hand hovered over her tile, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration, eyes narrowed and a thoughtful yet determined expression on her face. I may have lost before, but even I'm not going to loose to a twelve year old blind girl! After what seemed like a lifetime, she picked up her only tile, and moved it. Silence. Yes! I've won! She thought, judging by Tophs still position, her poker face un-hovering. The only sound was the beating of their hearts. Toph smiled. A smug smile. She did nothing except lean over, move her second-to-last piece, and snatch up Tsunades last tile. "I win." she said. Tsunades jaw nearly dropped to the floor, as the loudest noise a person could hear in a lifetime burst from the crowd, of laughter, cheers and applause rose up, filling the room with it's joy. Members of the audience came and patted Toph on the back, praising her. Tsunade however, did nothing. Toph had expected her to glare at Toph with all the hatred possible, but instead she did the thing Toph had least expected her to do.
Tsunade laughed. It was barely audible over the noise if the crowd, yet she was unmistakably laughing. "Ohhh, that I did not expect to happen!" she cried, between laughs, as she doubled over and had to stop breathing through laughing so hard. She buried her face in her hands, quietly chuckling to herself through childish giggles. "Ohhh, sorry, anyway, Oichi-Kabu! Now!"
"Have you got it on you?"
"Nope, but they'll be one here. What are you betting?"
"You owe me money first."
"Fine, sorry, here's your ninety-five."
"Cheers."
"Don't mention it."
"Cheers."
"No seriously, don't mention it. It will only bring back guilt and make me feel ashamed."
"Cheers."
"Stop it!"
"Nope. Cheers."
"Whatever, I'm going to get Oichi-Kabu." She said, and stalked off. Toph grinned, noticing how Tsunade was wobbling slightly, a little bit drunk. Although Toph would probably be the same, she had drunk eight bowls of cactus juice. Tsunade came wobbling back with a pack of cards in one hands. "So, what are you betting?" she asked Toph.
"94"
"110"
"That's a biggun."
"I'm more confident at this game than I am at being alive. And you can talk, you're a feisty little competitor yourself!"
"That's just at gambling, you should see me in a duelling arena."
"Maybe one day I will."
"Is that a threat?"
"It's a challenge."
"I accept."
"Do you realise who you're up against?"
"Do you realise who you're up against?"
"You're a twelve year old blind girl, how hard can it be?"
"I'm the greatest earth bender alive and I just beat the pants off the so called 'best gambler in Konoha'. You really don't want to under-estimate me."
"Fair point."
"I thought so."
"Yet that was at a game I'd never played before."
"Doesn't matter. Don't speak too soon, I could just as well as beat you in this game too."
"I doubt that."
"Really?"
"Fine. Whatever." She muttered, handing out the kabufuda cards. Tsunade knew just as well that Toph was going to beat her in this game. Afterall, she was the legendary looser. She also had a feeling that Toph could see through her act, as the tough talk, 'I'm the best gambler in Konoha' wasn't going to fool anybody. She was surprised Toph didn't know who she was, and even more so that she had never heard of Toph, 'The Blind Bandit', and her new jutsu, 'earthbending'. Loosing to Toph was probably just the bad luck that came with winning the bet with Jaraiya. Toph grinned, taking her cards. She knew she had Tsunade beat, whether she won this game or not.
The second game ran smoothly. Nothing super-exciting happened, and whenever Tsunade got ahead of Toph, Toph would always overtake her on the next go, she was always one ahead. Drawing near to the end of the game, the tension in the room made it seem like it was on fire and absorbed in ice at the same time. There was a horrible feeling of déjà vu, as once again, the only sound was the beating of their hearts, as they glared at each other, their hands holding the cards shaking slightly. It was Tophs go. After what seemed like a lifetime, Toph smirked, and planted her cards down onto the table with a loud SMACK! "Too bad Tsunade." She didn't need to say what she was going to say, as it was as clear as day and night. Toph had won.
Tsunade did nothing. She smiled gently, and landed a small bag down on the table in front of Toph, jingling from the coins it held. Toph picked it up without a word. "Ah, well, I better be heading back. Nice beating ya."
"Maybe one day we'll meet again, Toph Bei Fong. And then I can finally duel you,"
"Maybe?! We will meet again, Tsunade, and I will beat you, you can count on that."
"I don't doubt it."
"Next time, you come to Ba Sing Se, you'll be able to find it somewhere."
"You got lucky, Toph." Toph knew this was a lie.
"I know. Until we meet again."
"Until then." Tsunade saluted. Toph walked out the door, and raised her hand lazily without looking back, in a way that reminded Tsunade strongly of Kakashi. And she stood there, and carried on watching until Toph was a mere blip in the busy streets of Konohagakure. "Until then, Toph Bei Fong."
